Liminal is a hybrid multimedia theatrical work that merges live performance, cinematic projection, and architectural minimalism to explore psychological containment, memory, and ideological collapse. Set against the speculative ruins of a Central Asian world shaped by historical trauma and revolution, the narrative isolates the internal crisis of its protagonist, Raya. Navigating an environment stripped of certainty, she is left to interact with (pre-filmed) remnants of her past and a mute, physical Shadow-entity that externalizes her fractured psyche.

Rejecting traditional theatrical illusionism, the staging relies on somatic tension and spatial confinement. The set geometry is restricted to modular, monochromatic blocks that dictate the performer's physical trajectories. Throughout the piece, the Shadow silently alters the boundaries of the playing area, dragging heavy structural elements across the floor to physically enforce Raya’s internal entrapment. Against this friction, the script operates as a rhythmic auditory score—utilising sharp syntactic breaks and overlapping internal monologues to blur the line between reality and inner reckoning.

Drawing on critical fabulation and post-Jungian archetypes, the project bridges deeply personal loss with sweeping political consequence. Liminal places the audience directly inside Raya’s shifting emotional landscape, creating a disorienting space where justice is subjective, memory is unreliable, and the true cost of survival is confronted in the void of what remains unsaid.
